This Map of England and Wales Reveals the Most Popular Baby Names by Region

Earlier this week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released their 2020 report of the most popular baby names in England and Wales. The latest report revealed the most popular first name for baby boys and girls in 2020 using birth registration data. 

To make the information more digestible, Bella Baby has created two interactive maps below that show the most popular boys name by region, and the most popular girls name by region.

MOST POPULAR BOYS NAME BY REGION 

The 2020 report by the ONS revealed that the name 'Oliver' remained the most popular name for boys in England and Wales for the fifth consecutive year. However, the name Archie shot up in popularity and replaced Charlie in the top 20 boys names, and we can't help but think the royals played a big part in this.

MOST POPULAR GIRLS NAME BY REGION 

The report also revealed that 'Olivia' remained the most popular name for girls in England and Wales for the fifth consecutive year. However, the names 'Ivy' and 'Rosie' were knocked of the top ten spots this year and were replaced with 'Grace' and 'Freya'.

Siân Bradford, Vital Statistics Outputs Branch for the Office for National Statistics added, "Oliver and Olivia were the most popular baby names in 2020 across England and Wales. Oliver has remained at the top for the past eight years, while Olivia has been the top girls’ name for five years in a row. Since 2010, Ivy has risen 221 places to become the sixth most popular girls name in England and Wales in 2020. Ivy and Rosie entered the top 10 for the first time, replacing Grace and Freya.
